Sretford Arts Collective, SAC32, presented their first open submission exhibition last weekend, showcasing the work of 40 local creatives at a temporary gallery space inside the impressive, grade 2 listed Stretford Public Hall. SAC32, a small group of diverse artists based at the hall’s shared studio space, curated the 3 day event in demonstration of their founding principle, to share their individual creativity and collective love for the arts with the people of Stretford and beyond.
An open call for exhibitors in August resulted in an unprecedented number of applicants, eventually whittled down to 40 by the SAC32 team. Featured artists ranged from 18-80 to years old and from hobbyists to professionals, working in a number of craft, art and design disciplines and utilising a number of surprising mediums including cardboard, bones and buttons. The resultant display was a refreshingly cosmopolitan and contemporary show, corroborating Stretford’s historical standing as an unlikely but undeniable cultural hotbed. Formerly home to both L.S. Lowry and Stephen Patrick Morrissey, Stretford now seems to have a talented artist or musician in residence on every street.
Friday evening’s drinks reception included a speech from local superstar DJ Mr Scruff, and a visit from MP, Kate Green, but the real stars of the event were the 900 vibrant and supportive Stretfordians who attended the show throughout the weekend, and the beautiful hall itself, now firmly back in the hands and hearts of the local community, as Sir John Rylands originally bequeathed it.
SAC32’s second open exhibition is planned for summer 2017. If you’d like to keep up-to-date with plans for the show,
as well as learn about SAC32’s not-for-profit community workshops, you are welcome to join the emailing list at www.stretfordpublichall.org.uk.
Join us on the 11th – 13th of November to celebrate local creative talent. We will be curating our first ever SAC exhibition which will be on show in the stunning John Ryland’s Stretford Public Hall’s main hall. We have around 30 artists in total from the local area and a small handful from Stretford Arts Collective (SAC) Artists who have studios within the hall.
The work on show will range from Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Print, Fashion, Ceramics and more… This is a free event so get yourself down to have a drink with us one evening or take in some creativity in the day time! We hope to see you all there!
Introducing our next Stretford arts Collective workshop event. – A collage taster session run by Bridget Collin, professional Illustrator and Ian Tattersall a practicing artist and Art Therapist. The session will be a step by step workshop to create a hand collaged and painted greetings card. The artists will be working from photographs of Stretford, so feel free to bring your own!
Tea and coffee available and materials supplied. This event is open to residents of Stretford and the surrounding areas (Beginners welcome).
The session is run as a non for profit event and is limited to 15 places at £3.50 per ticket – so it is advised to get tickets early as our last session sold out in 2 days!
Stretford Arts Collective is a small group of Artists working in a shared studio space in Stretford Public Hall. The Artists together have a broad range of skills and mediums in which they work. The collective is open to any local creative wanting to bring an element of their skills to the hall and share with the community.

The Craft Festival will showcase some of the great community craft courses that Trafford College run throughout the borough as well as profiling local craft businesses and helping those thinking of starting a craft business by hosting talks from Google Digital Garage who will present seminars throughout the day on subjects such as developing an online presence and how you can help potential customers to find you on the internet.
People Plus will also be delivering sessions and offering advice and information on the steps required to get your craft business off the ground.
As well as providing a space for you to explore your creative talents, there will also be a small craft market and so after being inspired by one or more of the activities on offer, you can buy some materials and get cracking right away!
The Craft Festival is open to adult Trafford residents (19+) and pre-registration for this event is advised. Accompanied children are welcome to participate between 2pm & 4pm when some family craft activities will be running, but owing to the limited space in the building and capacity for wheelchair users, we would ask that you do not bring pushchairs or buggies as this will reduce the available space.
If you would like to save time on the day please pre-register using our on-online registration page. If you need help pre-registering or have any questions, please contact us by email email@example.com telephone 0161 886 7443 and we will be pleased to help.
