Neurotic Realist Painter
Ray is a self-taught artist who has been painting since the 1980’s. He specialises in neurotic realism in oils on canvas but he also works on tables, either reclaimed or made by himself. Ray has won many prizes for his work and has exhibited in London, Derby, Nottingham and Southport.
“I paint from the position of the observer. Subsequently my paintings are trying to get across the feeling of being watched. By using the genre of self-portraiture I am the one who is being observed and can express how I feel in any particular situation. I class my art as: Neurotic realistic conversation pieces full of psychological tensions and distortion, as found in every day life.” – Ray Hughes.
